Waiting on Wednesday [2]

Weekly meme hosted at Breaking The Spine

This week's "I-CAN'T-WAIT-TO-HAVE-IN-MY-HANDS" book is...

The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight by Jennifer E. Smith
(click on title to add on goodreads)

Who would have guessed that four minutes could change everything?

Today should be one of the worst days of seventeen-year-old Hadley Sullivan's life. She's stuck at JFK, late to her father's second wedding, which is taking place in London and involves a soon to be step-mother that Hadley's never even met. Then she meets the perfect boy in the airport's cramped waiting area. His name is Oliver, he's British, and he's in seat 18B. Hadley's in 18A.

Twists of fate and quirks of timing play out in this thoughtful novel about family connections, second chances and first loves. Set over a 24-hour-period, Hadley and Oliver's story will make you believe that true love finds you when you're least expecting it.

_____________________

I had a dream once  where I was in a situation similar to this, but of course much shorter and probably boring I can't quite remember well, so when I read this description I was like "YESSS!" :D . It's based on a 24-hour long period yet it's a whole book, a 256 pages book. I can't wait to read and find out how can a romance can blossom in such a small period of time, it's gonna take some serious convincing! (:

Review: Saving Francesca by Melina Marchetta

Oh, I loooooooove this cover!
 Title: Saving Francesca
Author: Melina Marchetta
Paperback, 243 pages
Published May 9th 2006 by Knopf Books for Young Readers

I don't know what to say. I am spechlees.
It's my first time reading Melina Marchetta, and I must confess was a bit reluctant at first...
I did not know what expect, but I can tell you this: never in a million years did I think I was gonna love this as much as I did!

This book starts off with Francesca, a 16 year old Australian-born-Italian-raised girl, complaining about her mother, who is that kind of person that has  so much life inside her + an excellent personality that is only annoying because we all wish we could be like them. Only Francesca doesn't realize that she's just like that, but she's been restraining herself for most of her life.

Francesca also likes to complain about her new school, a school with 700+ boys and ONLY 30 GIRLS! So the fact that there are so few girls there forces Francesca to hang out with girls she never wanted to before. The nerd, the slut and the protester.
Slowly, Francesca (or Frankie) starts to realize that things have never been as simple as she thought they were. You can't just put labels on people without knowing them, without giving yourself the chance to know them.

I loved the character's growth all through the book. Most of this people have know eachother for many, many years yet they are practically strangers, but when tragedy strickes Francesca's household, she starts seeing the world with new eyes and although she's hurting, she's also discovering what a great world this one can be if only you have the right people supporting you and loving you.

I've always said that a sign of a good book is that you can connect with its voice.
I loved Francesca since the beggining, she's relatable even though I've never been in a situation like the one she's having. It's a good sign when you care more about the main character's actions than the ones done by the hot, cute guy that's after her.

Because lately all everyone seem to remember these days is how hot and smart the guy was and they don't even know the name of the girl. I like when I get so absorbed in the main girl's head that I don't even realize I'm falling for the secondary characters aswell.
The other characters in this book were also fabulous! from Frankie's 3 girl best friends who were much more deep than what meets the eye, to the hard-on-the-outside-sweet-on-the-inside guys: Jimmy who was so incredibly kind and understending with Frankie's mom, to Will the nerdy pacifier everybody loves, to Thomas, oh Thomas he was the kind of guy that would hang this sign outside his door...

... but then he'd be the first to befriend the girls and help them while in need. He was awesome! <3
*sigh*
Sadly, I can't express how much I loved this story of growing up and learning to cope with unexpected situations that can shake our world but can also bring a new meaning to our lives. I laughed my head off, cried like a baby, shout at the pages, died of embarrasment and practically kissed this book full in the mouth (wherever that is), and that is all I can ask for whenever I read a book.

From now on I'm in love with Aussie books! <3

Review: The Boys Next Door by Jennifer Echols

Title: The boys next door
Author: Jennifer Echols
Mass Market Paperback, 317 pages
Published June 26th 2007 by Simon Pulse
Goodreads | Amazon

Slowly but surely I've come to love Jennifer Echols books.
It's just that she has this awesome writing style.. so carefree, and fearless... teenagery.

So whenever I start a book from her, especially one of this 'old' ones, I just know it's gonna be funny, cute and good times at full (oh and sexy times too *wink*)

This book didn't let me down!

It had the extra awesome factor I loooooove with passion:
Boy and Girl best friend realize they want something more ;)

I loved all the funny interactions between the five friends.
Lori new femme fatale, her tidy and composed brother McGillicuddy,
and the three brothers next door: Adam the youngest *swoon*, Sean the heartbreaker middle child, and Cameron the forever cool first born.

There was so much funniness in this book. A huge part of this can be blamed on Lori,
She is a tomboy that only hangs out with her college brother and her neighbors next door, three extremely handsome, extremely manly, sailor boys.
Even though there were a lot of boys in this story, I never lost track of who was who, they might have looked very similar on the outside but each of them had a different personality that made them stood out.

Lori is the best, she's witty and sassy and so freaking funny. She would always have the perfect comeback and she was no chicken when it came to try new tricks with the boys. But some time now she has been feeling the need to become more girlish so she can catch Sean's (hearthrob middle child) attention.
But she's still a tomboy, she can't help but kick ass while wakeboarding...

...Which Sean hates. Adam (baby brother and best friend) is another story, he's always
encouraging Lori to do what she likes and go get what she wants, even if it hurts him (Due to his secret crush on her).

I loved Adam since I first laid eyes on him (so to speak). This boy is awesomeness, he has an attention deficit hyperactivity disorder,  gets called LD (for Learning Dissability), and is the youngest of three boys; you can probably guess he gets picked on ALL THE TIME.
And oh boy he does. But that doesn't stop him, he tries hard to be treated normaly, he tries hard to fit in with his brothers and friends by doing stupid stuff and getting hurt. His life is like a Jackass episode. And just as passionaly as he takes everything in his life,
he's madly in love with Lori, who (saddly) has THE BIGGEST crush on Sean.

Sean is Adam's brother, he's the one in the middle and opposed to what people might think, he is the one that gets all the attention.
Everyone is in love with him even though he could be the BIGGEST jerk. But he could be very charming too.

But you have to read to see how this mess gets fixed (or does it stay a mess?)

All the book is made of awesome characters, extremely cute kissing scenes, and oh so funny and witty comebacks.
Now throw in some wakeboarding falls, and one or two fist fights and you have a book I would be re-reading pretty soon!

Waiting on Wednesday [1]

Hosted at Breaking the Spine blog.

I'm anxiously waiting for THERE YOU'LL FIND ME by
Jenny B. Jones

Here's goodreads description...

Pub date: October 4th, 2011

In a small cottage house in rural Ireland, Finley discovers she can no longer outrun the past.

When Finley travels to Ireland as a foreign exchange student, she hopes to create a new identity and get some answers from the God who took her brother away and seems to have left her high and dry.

But from the moment she boards the plane and sits by Beckett Rush, teen star of the hottest vampire flicks, nothing goes according to Finley's plan.
When she gets too close to Beckett, a classmate goes on a mission to make sure Finley packs her bags, departs Ireland-and leaves Beckett alone.
Finley feels the pressure all around. As things start to fall apart, she begins to rely on a not-so-healthy method of taking control of her life.

Finley tries to balance it all-disasters on the set of Beckett's new movie, the demands of school, and her growing romance with one actor who is not what he seems. Yet Finley is also not who she portrays to Beckett and her friends.
For the first time in her life, Finley must get honest with herself to get right with God.

Sounds awesome, don't ya think?
I looove YA realistic fiction, and to have a vampire flick actor and a troubled girl, just makes it even better!
And it's set in Ireland! I love Ireland, such a magical place!
And that cover! I have been in loooooove with that cover ever since I first saw it.
It was love at first sight! It's cute and eye-catching and ahhh I just wanna buy a copy and cuddle with it!

Review: Uncommon Criminals by Ally Carter

Title: Uncommon Criminals
Author: Ally Carter <3
Hardcover, 298 pages
Published June 21st 2011 by Hyperion Book CH

Ahhhh. Where do I begin?
I remember reading Heist Society a loooong time ago, I remember listening to the audiobook of it quite a few times,
I remember loving this series.
But I didn't remember HOW MUCH.
I loved this book! I was so surprised and pleased to discover it is as good as the first one!, plus more adventures,
more truths, more lies, and oh so many incredibly kick-butt action!
The characters! Gosh the characters! I didn't recall them being this awesome!  they were all so clever, so smart.
It takes some (okay, a lot) of talent to write a book like this, and to my eyes, Miss Carter deserves an standing ovasion!
I can't even imagine how much time it took for her to plot all her characters' actions.
Each and everyone of the situations on this book were complicated and tricky at first only to be ended later in the most simplified way you could think of (or actually, never think of) these guys are teenagers after all, and trust them to find the answer to an exit problem using five hundred pigeons (not kidding, don't ask)
What I also loved about this second book is that it shows Kat's flaws. I mean I knew she had them, she knew she had them,
but it's nice to see them acknowledged. She can be a super kick ass thief, but she's also a fifteen year old girl who has normal problems while living an extraordinary life. And it was nice to see that.
And Hale, oh W. W. Hale the Fifth, how I love you! He kept the loyalness he has come to be known for.
He's awesome, you can tell he's deeply in love with Kat,
but he's not gonna take her crap, and I like that, he's fierce! reminds me of a GOOD Chuck Bass, utterly confident and careless in a way only the extra-rich and extra-handome are.
Every other character kick major butt in this one too. Gabrielle was cool in book 1, but I loved her in this one. And Nick, oh Nick I love you too <3 I just hope Miss Carter has something good prepared for him, cause in the short amount of pages he's been in, I've come to love him and wish him nothing but the best.
This book is incredible and I can't wait for the people at WB to give the green light so they can start turning this series into a movie! It'd be the ultimate action-packed, romance-full, funny-filled film I've ever hoped to watch!
PS. I'm still waiting for that story of when Hale and Kat met. Hopefully will find out in the next book. Oh and what does the W. W. mean? I bet Miss Carter has something good prepared for that revelation!
!!!!

And while we're at it, don't forget to vote HALE in the YA Crush Tourney.
Hale is awesome. You know you want him!

Review: The Ghost and The Goth by Stacey Kade

Title: The Ghost and The Goth
Author: Stacey Kade
Hardcover, 281 pages
Published June 29th 2010 by Hyperion Book CH

Goodreads description.

I LOVED this book! I don't know if I have a soft spot for ghosts (yeah, right) or for KICK-ASS characters, or something but lucky for me, this book happens to have both.

I randomly found the book description in goodreads and was blown away by how
similar it sounded to The Mediator my all time favorite YA series. And opposite to what others might do,
going like "Aw there's no way this is as awesome, I'm not reading it!", I'm open-minded
and was glad to find something similar so I decided to give it a try, and went and get the book by all means
-begging, crying and acting like a 2 year old- and oh man! I'M SO GLAD!

PLUS: JUST LOOK AT THE COVER! I don't think I've loved a cover so much, like, EVER! (I'm thinking about getting a full back tattoo of it) I loooove how accurate it actually is,
it's like THOSE are Alona and Will, they're exactly like that, clothes and everything.

Since the very first chapter things are attention grabbing and I find myself immersed in the story, it starts when Alona, the queen bee of her high school, seemingly perfect in every way possible... *gasp* DIES!
But despite what people like to think about her, and what you're already imagining (snotty bitch), she's not! far from the truth!
GIRL IS FIERCE! she's a fighter and has the master mind of Brain
from Pinky and the Brain, no really, she could totally take you in a 'guess the murderer' contest.
Not that there's a murderer in this book, just tons of hilarious, interesting, sad, hot, fun, and kickass moments. I can't complain here, cause I got everything I was asking for, so I will just continue summarizing the plot,

so yes, Alona dies ):
but hey! stop sobbing, girl is not going anywhere for now, and that is because (if you ever read a ghost's book or have been going to the movies/ watching tv this past 20 years you already know this) :
she has unressolved issues.
And what's her to do, she doesn't know anything about being dead, and no one can help her, right?

WRONG! There's someone out there...
someone who can help Alona with her newly acquired troubles...
and that someone is Will Killian! aka Will Kill, you might recognize him as the pseudo-goth guy sitting in the farthest cafeteria table that apparently talks to himself out loud and wears his hoodie over his head all the time
to keep the voices out.

Yeah, Alona thinks that too: NO WAY I'M GETTING NEAR THAT FREAK.
But the only other person who she knows can communicate with the dead is in Puerto Vallarta and I mean it's a long walk to Mexico D: .

So Alona and Will make a deal, he would teach her everything he knows about ghosts, death and moving on If she serves as his bodyguard, that is, keeping the other ghosts off of his face so he can finally have some peace and quiet after years and years of ghosts 'haunting' him.
I bet you can guess where that leads...
me= fun fun fun,
Will & Alona= *headdesk* *headdesk*!

Despite what you might think after reading this (that is if you're still with me after all this babbling) :
"Oh but it sounds SO clichéd!" I have only one thing to say about this, okay two:
a) what's not cliche these days?, I mean, come on! nothing is 100% original now, after all this is 2011.
and b) Cliche can be FUN.
Besides, it's the characters who truly take an story to the next level. This book is infinitely entretaining and with very real (and funny) main characters,
a realistic MALE teenager and a realistic GIRL teenager, and that's not easy to pull off let me tell ya, not everyone can portray a boy and a girl so relatable.

So yeah this book is ALL ABOUT THE FUN (plus some twists you might have not seen coming).

If you just came back from a trip to a child's hospital, got out of jail, witnessed an animal massacre, got your heart broken, read Mockingjay or lost your favorite lipstick at the mall and are SO DEPRESSED you can't take it anymore, I suggest you read this, it won't dissapoint IT'S MADE OF FUN, no seriously, read the tag it says it's made with the same stuff SIX FLAGS is made of.

4 hearts and a kidney.

On Beth Revis and her awesomesauce

It's no secret that I'm in love with the Universe.
I am obsessed with everything that has to do something with it.
So you can imagine how thrilled I was when I first heard of Across the Universe.

To say I loooooved it, it's like saying I just "dislike" bugs.
Miss Revis, to my eyes, is a goddess! I cannot express with words how incredible
she and her book are, so I won't even try. I'd just dance around.

And you guys, I'm soooooo excited for her second book in the series which now has a cover,
a beautiful cover! (I think it matches perfectly the new paperback!)

And now, if you live in North Carolina, or Tennesse or in between them you might have a chance to see
Beth Revis in flesh and bone and clothes! :D! and not only her! there's also Myra McEntire author of Hourglass (haven't read it but sounds awesome)
and Victoria Schwab author of The Near Witch (sounds awesome too!)

So if you live near don't forget to go to their tour! I'm sure it'd be lots of fun!

Review: Never Eighteen by Megan Bostic

Title: Never Eighteen
Author: Megan Bostic
Expected publication: January 17th 2012 by HMH Children's Books

It might be a little early to review this book, seeing as it comes out about six months from now. But I saw the description on goodreads and it's been raining for a few days now and I guess I was in the moon cause I just knew I had to read it. Soon.

It was a beautiful story,
I loved it. This book is about Austin, a 17 year old boy that has cancer. He wakes up some day
and decides to do something meaningful with the time he has left, so with the help of his best friend and secret crush, Kaylee,
he's off in a mission to help the people he's known all his life, whose problems were always obvious to him but he never do anything
about it. But the time has come for him to face the fact that if he loves this people, he needs to do something to make them enjoy
their lives. Because that's something he no longer has, life time.

The journey was interesting, definitely interesting. ALL this people in Austin life were FULL of problems, they were literally sunk in an ocean of darkness that sometimes it was
difficult to believe, I mean from a girl that was raped and turned into an anorexic drug addict to a gay friend still in the closet, to a lonely working mom that lost her child (one of Austin's bestfriends) a few years before,
and there was also the guy with a drinking problem and the separated parents that didn't speak to eachother anymore, and the renagated grandma. So yeah I might have found myself rolling my eyes at the pages a few times.
I just couldn't understand why a such a nice boy like Austin would let all this time passed without doing something about it before?

But I can't blame him, though. I mean he had cancer, he was just a teenage boy, I think it's safe to say he might have been absorbed in his own problems.
The good thing is that he decided to change things and just in time. I loved him. I think he was sweet and loyal and selfless, but most of all, he was brave.
Not anyone would have spend his/her time (much less when he/she had so little time left) trying to help people that were by no means interested in getting help.

I really liked the parts when Austin and his best friend Kaylee were together. Those times when they were hiking, when they went to the fair or the music museum,
or just when they were riding in her car. It was an emotional ride; reading Austin struggling with his feelings was hard, but at the end I got rewarded with a beautiful
ending. The perfect ending. That last letter was perfect! I think it gave us the perfect last glance of who Austin Parker was, a joyful teenager that loved indie music,
the ocean, good books and most of all, he loved Kaylee. Epic romance, everyone that reads this will close this book wishing they had something half as amazing as Austin's love for Kaylee.

You will shed a few tears with this one!

It's three hearts and a kidney, actually, but I don't know where my kidney pics are ):

Review: What Happened To Goodbye by Sarah Dessen

What happened to Goodbye
Author: Sarah Dessen
Published May 10th 2011 by Penguin Young Readers Group
Click to go to its Goodreads page

I know you don't know me (yet) but I have to say that everyone in real life knows what a HUGE Sarah Dessen fan I am. I even have her name tattooed on my bicep ;)

She's one of the first YA authors I ever read and her books have a place close to my heart. So excuse me if I might have been over-excited when I heard about this book. She didn't published anything in about 2 years so I almost had a heart attack and maybe just maybe I set my expectations HIGH.

WHTG is the story of a girl named McLean. Her parents divorced after her mom cheated on her dad and McLean has been angry at her mom ever since, so she lives with her dad. Problem is that her dad is a chef and he has to travel a lot, checking on his boss' restaurants and McLean, hurt as she is, doesn't want to get involved too much with anyone.

So she lies. She makes up names and personalities for her to have at each town they go to. But this time is different, she didn't choose it, she didn't think about it but she find herself changing this time around.
