Q: What is your biggest pet peeve when it comes to books? Maybe you don’t like love triangles or thin plots? Tell us about it!
UCK, where to begin?!
- Love triangles. I absolutely hate them, because the 2 guys/girls are always great and I hate that one of them gets their heart break ):
- Weak hero/heroine. It gets on my nerves when the hero/heroine doesn't stand up for his/herself and does everything the romantic interest tells them too.
- Cursing or religious jokes. Ugh, seriously why critize someone's belief just because it's not yours, I hate when books do that, I came to you to have fun not to get laughed at.
Got carried away, sorry :)
haha! I just made a post about love triangles!

Agree with the religious jokes. Seems strange that someone would think that's funny. Great answers. New follower!
ReplyDeleteHopping through. Religious jokes would be odd. Why insult some of your potential readers? People wouldn't dare do racial jokes so I don't see why religious jokes would be okay.

Don't think I've come across any religious jokes, but yeah if it doesn't play a factor in the story then it's completely unnecessary. Cursing I can deal with since it IS something that people do... more so than not at least.

Religious jokes seem like SUCH a bad idea on so many levels. Why ostracise a huge chunk of your potential audience like that?!

I agree with all points but love triangles.

Never should have religion or politics in any book as it might offend someone. Hate a weak heroine. Great pet peeves. Come visit me as well.

Hey Melannie, I love your blog it's very cool. I too hate a weak character they completely ruin the book and I lose interest pretty quick. Happy FF ;)

Cursing isn't necessary, I agree.

I can't say that I've come across too many blatantly religious jokes but I can definitely understand how they can offend certain people. Authors should try to be more PC in their writing...

I hate it too when the heroine just lets the romance interest do everything! Love triangles are actually something I can bear, as long as they're well enough constructed and I like the ending! For some reason, I always end up choosing the guy that the heroine chooses, and feeling fine that the other guy didn't.

I love when a love triangle is done properly, but it seems to be deployed (quite often) as a weak literary device used to create conflict in order to provide some substance to an otherwise boring storyline.
ReplyDeleteDon't even get me started on a weak protagonist!

I like your pet peeves. Religious jokes are bad taste. I can live with a love triangle if it is written well.
